Proton e.MAS has become the fastest automotive brand in Malaysia to achieve 31,504 xEV registrations, as at 31 July 2026. The milestone was achieved in just 20 months after the launch of the Proton e.MAS 7 in December 2024.
Beyond setting a new sales benchmark, 30,293 domestic registrations represent 30,293 Malaysians who have chosen to make electrified mobility part of their everyday lives. That growing community has enabled Proton e.MAS to expand charging access, strengthen aftersales support, invest in local manufacturing and accelerate the development of Malaysia's xEV ecosystem, making EV ownership more practical and accessible for even more Malaysians.
The momentum has also extended beyond Malaysia. Since export activities commenced, more than 1,211 Proton e.MAS units have been delivered to overseas markets. The recently introduced Proton e.MAS 5 has also begun its international journey, with 130 units exported, bringing the affordable EV ownership experience enjoyed by Malaysians to customers abroad.
The achievement comes shortly after Proton e.MAS surpassed 20,000 registrations in 2026 alone, already exceeding its entire 2025 sales volume within the first half of the year. This rapid growth mirrors the increasing pace of xEV adoption across Malaysia as more consumers embrace electrified mobility.
Accelerating Malaysia's xEV Market
As Malaysia's xEV market continues to expand, Proton e.MAS has been one of its strongest growth drivers. The Proton e.MAS 5 continues to lead the charge as Malaysia's No. 1 EV model with 13,279 units delivered. The Proton e.MAS 7 has quickly established itself as the country's best-selling C-segment EV SUV with 12,068 units delivered, while the Proton e.MAS 7 PHEV has become Malaysia's best-selling plug-in hybrid model with 4,946 units delivered. Together, the three models have helped expand consumer choice across Malaysia's xEV market while cementing Proton e.MAS as the nation's leading xEV brand.
Commenting on the milestone, Mr. Zhang Qiang, Chief Executive Officer of PRO-NET, said, "Malaysia's transition towards electrified mobility has reached an important milestone. Surpassing 30,000 Proton e.MAS registrations in just 20 months reflects the growing confidence Malaysians have in electric mobility and demonstrates how quickly xEVs have become part of everyday consideration for car buyers. Every new Proton e.MAS owner has also helped strengthen the ecosystem that supports future EV adoption, creating benefits that extend well beyond vehicle ownership.”
Building an EV Ecosystem
Supporting the brand's rapid growth is a continuously expanding nationwide ecosystem designed to provide customers with greater confidence and convenience throughout their ownership journey.
On the ecosystem, Mr. Zhang commented, "Building great electric vehicles is only part of the journey. Our responsibility is to make EV ownership simple and worry-free, whether through expanding our retail and aftersales network, growing charging access, strengthening local manufacturing or listening closely to feedback from our customers. As our community grows, we will continue investing in the ecosystem that makes electrified mobility more practical for every Malaysian."
Today, Proton e.MAS has grown its retail footprint to 58 dealerships, supported by 45 service centres and 10 Body & Paint centres nationwide, ensuring customers have easy access to comprehensive sales and aftersales support wherever they are.
One of the biggest barriers to EV adoption has always been charging confidence. Making charging simpler and more accessible remains one of the most important enablers of wider xEV adoption. Proton e.MAS continues addressing this by expanding one of Malaysia's most comprehensive integrated charging ecosystems.
The Proton e.MAS Integrated Live Charging Map now lists more than 4,700 charging points, covering over 90% of the country. This includes more than 1,500 charging points across over 600 condominiums, making home and destination charging more accessible than ever. Through participating high-rise residential charging partners, owners can also enjoy charging rates from as low as RM0.63 per kWh when payments are made through the Proton e.MAS app.
Investing in Malaysia's Electric Future
As Malaysia's national automotive brand, Proton e.MAS continues to support the Government's National Energy Transition Roadmap (NETR) by accelerating the adoption of electrified mobility while strengthening local manufacturing capabilities.
Beyond growing EV adoption, Proton e.MAS is also helping develop Malaysia's EV industry. Following the recent commencement of local assembly for the Proton e.MAS 7 PHEV, all three Proton e.MAS models are now assembled in Malaysia. The Proton e.MAS 7 PHEV currently incorporates 30% local content, with localisation expected to increase progressively in the years ahead.
To support rising domestic demand and growing export opportunities, PROTON has invested an additional RM37 million to expand the capabilities of Malaysia's first dedicated EV manufacturing facility, increasing its annual production capacity from 20,000 units to 42,000 units to meet increasing demand from domestic and also the export market.
In just 20 months since the launch of the Proton e.MAS 7, more than 30,000 Malaysians and customers abroad have embraced Proton e.MAS. Their confidence has helped accelerate the development of Malaysia's EV ecosystem, strengthen local manufacturing capabilities and position the country as an emerging hub for electrified mobility. As Proton e.MAS continues to grow, it remains committed to making the next EV ownership journey even easier than the last.
